When do you need depression counseling

We, people, experience depression at one point in our lives.  There are just so many things that happen in our lives it is natural to feel down at times. But there are situations when the depression can get serious. That is when those people really need a counseling.Because the effects can be devastating if the depression gets worse. In this article we are going to look at some signs of knowing when to seek help for depression.

Depression can affect anyone at anytime as said earlier in the article. Things like struggles in marriage or relationships.Or it can also be caused by the loss of a loved one.  The reasons for depression that I see in my depression counselor practice varies so much. But it is always important to know when to seek help for depression.

You can tell a person may need some counseling if the depression extends for a long period of time.Someone would need counseling already if you can notice that he/she is already depressed for days already. Or if someone starts not functioning socially there may be a problem. As a family therapist San Diego I have seen all these symptoms. Once you see them you need to seek out help.

They can hurt themselves is the reason why you must help people you know who are depressed. But they can also hurt others that is why you really should seek help for them. The depression has already turned into anger if that happens. Sometimes a person feels so depressed and helpless they get angry.  That is when I use my anger management counseling services to help them.Because anger is more dangerous than depression because it can hurt others already.

So as you can see depression is a serious condition. You must act fast if you know someone close to you that has been depressed for a time now. Their safety and others safety could be at risk.

Using the vivid poignant and personal stories of the members of a website support group she founded (www.depressionfallout.com) Anne Sheffield the author of two highly acclaimed books on depression provides an honest record of what happens to a love relationship once depression enters the picture and offers solid advice on what the non-depressed partner can do to improve his or her own life and the relationship. Of the millions of people who suffer from a depressive illness few suffer in solitude. They draw the people they love - spouses parents children lovers friends - into their illness. In her first book H ow You Can Survive When They're Depressed Anne Sheffield coined the phrase 'depression fallout' to describe the emotional toll on the depressive's family and close friends who are unaware of their own stressful reactions and needs. She outlined the five stages of depression fallout (confusion self-doubt demoralisation anger and the need to escape) and explained that these reactions are a natural result of living with a depressed person.
