Treating Depression With Alternative Methods
Development in research with new ways of alternative treatments are being used for the different types of depression. It has been said that many cases of depression and SAD, seasonal affective disorder, have been treated with alternative therapies, over the last few years. In the course of looking for a cure, a new alternative treatment has been brought to existence to address the issue on this disorder. If you are suffering from depression, and would prefer to use alternative methods, then this form of treatment may be beneficial to you.
Light therapy is the latest among the alternative therapies for depression. Light box therapy for depression has become one of the favorite light therapy treatments used for this disorder. Light therapy or light treatment use 'light boxes'. These light boxes provide 10,000 lux of artificial light. Light therapy, which is also referred to as phototherapy, usually consists of exposure to particular wavelengths of light depending how much is being prescribed for a certain amount of time.
People who experience seasonal affective disorder have found the light therapy treatment to be effective. This mood disorder is usually known as winter depression or winter blues. This type of depression actually can be experienced by the patient repeatedly during the winter season. The feeling of depression can be experienced year after year. Also, light boxes were proven to help other types of depression as well, apart from seasonal affective disorder.
The good thing about light boxes is that they do not cause skin damage compared to a variety of light therapies, such as those that make use of ultraviolet light. Prolonged exposure from ultraviolet light is known to damage the skin. Blue Light Treatment and light box treatment are associated, although compared to blue light, the light box gives a quicker therapeutic response to the individual who uses it. On the other hand, using blue light therapy to treat depression could be as responsive as using light boxes on younger patients, but is not an adequate depression treatment for mature patients.
Extensive disorders such as SAD and depression may take up to three weeks for any results to show, using any form of light therapy.
There are of course other forms of natural treatment for depression. Natural cures for depression do not rely on traditional prescription medications for a solution. Vitamins and supplements, dietary changes, relaxation techniques, are a few other methods. As you can see there are different forms of alternative treatments available, so the choice is yours if you prefer a more natural method.

Treating Body, Mind and Soul: Alternative Solutions for Modern Living $10.29 Shortly after the success of his autobiography A STEP AT A TIME, many readers asked Jan de Vries for more information regarding his 45 years of experience in the practice of naturopathy. In TREATING BODY, MIND AND SOUL, Jan shares with his readers the many ways in which he treats his patients and details the more extraordinary cases that he has dealt with over the years. In doing so, he provides a clear idea of how the body really works and what physical problems can occur. He also illustrates how some unusual cases have been dealt with successfully in an unorthodox way using complementary therapies. Some of the astounding cases mentioned in his autobiography are dealt with in this book more explicitly to show the way de Vries sees the body as a whole and how, with some small adjustments, he has brought many people newfound health and happiness. Treating people with mental and emotional health problems is a major aspect of Jan's work and over the years he has developed various alternative methods that compliment orthodox treatments. This book reveals intriguingly his success in treating problems of the mind using breathing exercises, homeopathic and herbal remedies as well as cranial osteopathy and acupuncture. Jan also delves into the mystery of the soul and shares his thoughts and theories on why it is entwined so fully with the body and mind. He opines on the twenty-first century diseases that are so often misunderstood and, in many cases, go unidentified and gives tips on how to deal with them. |
