Any state in beta blockers for the treatment of panic and anxiety?

I had panic attacks and generalized anxiety for a while now and I can not breathe and have chest pains. I've been in the emergency room and my family dr. many times and everyone says my chest pain and tachycardia is due to panic and anxiety. I'm having a hard time believeing this! So, beta blockers work and time are usually prescribed for this and how long take to work? I'm still havong symptoms. I am also starting Effexor XR 150 mg. Any advice would be helpful!
